Thousand Acres at Deep Creek Lake is a lakeside
golf community that balances the quiet natural setting of a mature
Appalachian Mountain forest with the active recreational setting of a
lakefront golf club environment. Thousand Acres at Deep Creek Lake is
located in the Allegheny Mountains of Garrett County, in Western
Maryland, on beautiful Deep Creek Lake. Seventeen miles long and
covering 3,900 acres with 65 miles of wooded shoreline, Deep Creek is
Maryland's largest freshwater lake. Easily accessible from major East
Coast metropolitan areas, Thousand Acres at Deep Creek Lake is a
tranquil and exclusive retreat for you, your friends, and your family.
The family tradition at Thousand Acres began over
a half-century ago, when the Smith family purchased the property
shortly after Deep Creek Lake was impounded to form Maryland's largest
hydroelectric project. The pristine lake and mountainous landscape of
Garrett County has long been a destination of metropolitan visitors.
Notable Deep Creek vacationers include many Presidents and world-famous
scientists and doctors. Since the 1950's, the Smith family has sold
only a limited portion of the Thousand Acres shoreline to individual
homeowners and to a small, private yacht club. Tree sheltered private
paved roads now provide access to the homes built on this quiet section
of Deep Creek Lake’s southern shoreline.
The Smith family’s established legacy of
environmental stewardship on Thousand Acres is being carefully
preserved to ensure that the property will retain its unique heritage
and beautiful natural character. The golf course and all community
amenities and residential areas will be designed to protect and enhance
the environment, including significant wetlands, streams, and springs
found in the native forests of Thousand Acres. Carefully controlled
land development will be observed to maintain Thousand Acres at Deep
Creek Lake in complete harmony with its natural surroundings.
